My Story

I’ve always been drawn to leadership and leaders. It’s taken decades for me to figure out what leadership means and why it was so important to me. I’ll also be the first to admit that I didn’t always know how to act like a leader even though I wanted to be one. Most of the faults I find in leaders, I have been through at one point or another over the course of my life.

My earliest memory of aspiring to leadership (and failing at it) was in little league football. The moment I realized I didn’t really know what it mean to lead is burned deep into my memory. In just writing this, the most memories I have are times when I focused on the wrong things or just did things the leader I am today would not even consider doing. Those experiences span every aspect of my life. From my family, to my church service and definitely throughout my professional career.

It’s also interesting that when I think about entertainment, the characters I am always most drawn to are those that are seeking to be the kind of leader I want that to be. Sometimes, that is not the main character and other times, it could even be the villain.

All of the experiences have led me to where I am today. So where is that. First I am super sensitive to leadership shortcomings, both in myself and in the world in general. I don’t work well with leaders that don’t demonstrate true leadership. Many of these individual are managers that have been promoted into a leadership position without the understanding of the difference between the two roles. I also tend to collaborate best with those that are at least aspiring to true leadership.

So that really begs the question - what do I consider true leadership. True leadership to me is about making a difference and lifting yourself and others towards the fullest potential. It’s not about power, money, notoriety or much of anything that is focused on you as the leader. It’s all about the difference you can make in the lives of others, your family, your community and maybe even the world.

What I hope to have the opportunity to do is to work this those leaders, current and aspiring, that want to be true leaders and really make a difference. To that end, I’ll be launch a leadership podcast (no eye rolling about having yet one more leadership podcast) and developing services and programs that are designed to pull in all I have learned over decades of leadership and work with individuals, charities, small business, educators and others that want to be true leaders.

I would love to build a leadership community where we all work together and support each other. If we can make that work, then the sum of our collective efforts will make a difference. And maybe, just maybe we can help make the world a little better place.

If this sounds like something you want to be a part of, click here and let me know. I know enough to know that I can’t do this alone and that this will definitely be an uphill battle where I can use all the help I can get.

Sincerely,

Greg Cunningham
